Designed for a small group and accompanied by the comfort of private transportation throughout, this experience combines Sicily’s iconic beauty with the authenticity of Calabria, one of Italy’s most soulful and lesser-explored regions. Along the way, carefully curated winery visits open doors to the traditions, terroirs, and flavors that define the south of Italy.
DAY 1 September 30 - Depart the United States Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service as you travel to start your vacation.
DAY 2 October 1 - Palermo Arrival After landing at Palermo Airport, complete customs and immigration formalities. Transfer to your hotel independently, check in and settle into your room. (No transfer included) Palermo Free Time Enjoy the balance of the day at leisure to relax or soak up the atmosphere of the city. Discover Palermo's street art, trendy cafes and artisan shops. In the evening, you might like to sample the local cuisine by dining at a nearby venue. Overnight: Hotel NH Palermo, Palermo The NH Palermo hotel is in the prettiest part of the city, set between the botanical gardens and the castle. It looks out on the Gulf of Palermo, and is just a short walk from the city center.
DAY 3 October 2 - Palermo Sightseeing Palermo Tour Embark on a guided tour of Palermo to see the Quattro Canti, a splendid example of Spanish Baroque architecture, the Palace of the Normans, and the famous Benedictine Abbey of Monreale. Stop to admire the 12th century Cathedral, housing very fine mosaics representing a complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments. Palermo is Sicily's capital and one of the oldest Sicilian cities, located on a coast that is rich in natural harbors and sits at the edge of the fertile "Conca d'Oro," which translated is Golden Bay. Tonnino Winery Cooking Class with Dinner Head to Tonnino Winery to experience a special cooking class, where you will learn hands on how to make traditional typical specialties and enjoy a wine tasting. The outcome of your culinary experience will be your dinner. Overnight: Mangia's Favignana Resort, Favignana Check-in for your stay at Mangia's Favignana Resort, situated on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the island of Favignana.
DAY 4 October 3 - Valley of the Temples Valley of the Temples Drive into the ancient Greek city of Akragas, a hillside town famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided tour of the Valley, which includes seven monumental Greek temples in the Doric style that were constructed during the 6th and 5th centuries B.C. Now excavated and partially restored, the Valley of the Temples is the largest and best-preserved set of ancient Greek buildings outside of Greece. Dinner at Local Venue This evening, gather with your group to enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 5 October 4 - Agrigento to Taormina and Leisure Time - Scala dei Turchi Visit Scala dei Turchi, or Stair of the Turks, a dazzling white rock formation on the southern coast of Sicily, which has been sculpted over centuries by wind and rain into smooth, tiered steps that plunge into the sea. After, enjoy some free time to have lunch on your own. Overnight: Splendid Hotel, Taormina The Splendid Hotel Taormina is situated just steps from the historic center, Corso Umberto and is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna
DAY 6 October 5 - Scilla Sightseeing Scilla Walking Tour Journey along the enchanting Tyrrhenian coast into Scilla and set off on a walking tour of the small seaside village. Stroll along the cobblestone streets through the fishing village, which can only be accessed by foot. Castello Ruffo di Scilla Visit Castello Ruffo di Scilla (Ruffo Castle), a historic fortress strategically located on the Scillèo promontory overlooking the Strait of Messina. The site has origins dating back to the 5th century BC and was the residence for the Ruffo family starting in 1533. Via Chianalea Head to Via Chianalea, a charming alley in Scilla, known as 'The Pearl of the Strait', where houses are built directly on the water's edge. Dinner at Local Venue Tonight, travel to a nearby restaurant to enjoy dinner with your group that will introduce you to the Sicilian flavors and local cuisine. Overnight: Hotel Continental, Reggio Calabria Enjoy your stay at the 4-star Hotel Continental in Reggio Calabria, located in the heart of the city, only steps from the Port of Reggio Calabria and the boardwalk.
DAY 7 October 6 - National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia Visit the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia, the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. Here, uncover the history of the Magna Graecia areas, which were extensively populated by Greek settlers starting from the 8th century BC. Also, view the magnificent Bronzi di Riace, two full-sized bronze statues of naked bearded warriors cast about 450 BC. The statues were discovered in 1972 by Roman snorkeler, Stefano Mariottini, just off the coast of Riace Marina in the Mediterranean Sea. The area is known for its stunning beaches, marine reserves and authentic Calabrian cuisine. Overnight: Hotel Palace, Crotone Stay at the 4-star Hotel Palace Crotone, a prime beachfront location along the Ionian coast.
DAY 9 October 8 - Wine Museum Wine Museum Visit a local Wine Museum to discover the region's long-standing winemaking traditions. Azienda Baroni with Lunch Journey to Azienda Baroni Winery for a tour followed by a splendid lunch with your group. Overnight: Grand Hotel Balestrieri, Torre Melissa Check-in for your stay at the 4-star Grand Hotel Balestrieri in Torre Melissa. The hotel offers guests private beach access, a large outdoor swimming pool, a sun deck with sun loungers and a poolside bar as well.
DAY 10 October 9 - Tropea Sightseeing Tropea Orientation Tour Travel into Tropea and set off on an orientation tour of the beautiful clifftop town of Tropea. After, enjoy some free time to have lunch and explore around on your own. You may like to head to Tropea's “balcony” viewpoint to see incredible panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Gulf of Saint Euphemia. Tropea to Pizzo Calabro Departing Tropea, journey into Pizzo Calabro, a picturesque seaport known for its truffle gelato. Dinner at Local Venue In the evening, join your fellow travelers for a wonderful farewell dinner at a local venue. Overnight: Hotel della Piazza, Pizzo Calabro Stay at Hotel della Piazza in Pizzo Calabro, situated in the heart of the historic center.
DAY 11 October 10 - Lamezia Terme Departure All too soon, your vacation in Italy has come to an end. Transfer to Lamezia Terme International Airport in plenty of time to check in for your flight. You may do some last minute shopping at the duty-free stores before boarding your aircraft and flying back to the United States.
